Let’s be honest, most leaders aren’t burned out because they’re weak. They’re burned out because they’re busy being busy.
Summer exposes that faster than any other season.
In Parks & Recreation and municipal government, the pace doesn’t just increase it explodes. Your head goes down, you sprint forward, and suddenly someone says, “Hey, when’s our mid‑summer appreciation BBQ?” And you realize… You’re already past the midpoint.
That’s the moment it hits you: You’ve been so consumed by work that you’ve lost sight of the people doing the work.
I’ve lived that moment more times than I’d like to admit.
Because when the heat rises, the events stack up, part‑time staff call out, full‑time staff are stretched thin, and culture starts slipping through your fingers… the easiest thing to sacrifice is yourself.
Hydration? Later.
Sleep? When you can.
Exercise? Maybe next week.
Boundaries? Nonexistent.
Mentorship or coaching? “I don’t have time for that right now.”
But here’s the truth leaders don’t say out loud:
Getting coaching isn’t weakness. Setting boundaries isn’t selfish. Slowing down isn’t losing ground.
These are the things that make you stronger and they’re the only way to serve your team in a meaningful, sustainable way.
Because when your Health collapses, your Heart dims. And when your Heart dims, your Habits fall apart. And when your Habits fall apart, your systems crumble. And when your systems crumble… Culture is the first casualty.
Every summer, leaders tell themselves, “We’ll fix culture in the fall.” But culture doesn’t pause for the season. It erodes in chaos unless you lead through it with intention.
Summer doesn’t break leaders. Lack of systems does.
When you prioritize your H3, your Health, your Heart, and your Habits you stop reacting and start leading. You slow down enough to see your people. You create fun again. You build an environment staff want to return to next summer. You stop losing yourself in the work and start showing up as the leader your team actually needs.
And that’s why I built the H3 Performance Intensive.
Not as a “nice to have.” But because leaders deserve support, structure, and a system that keeps them grounded when the season tries to pull them apart.
If you’re tired of sprinting through summer only to look up and realize you missed the moments that mattered, this is your sign to do it differently.
Slow down. Get support. Build your system. Lead with intention not exhaustion.
If you’re ready to thrive this summer instead of surviving it, message me or comment H3 and I’ll send you the details.
