This Week’s Play: Systems Create Freedom

Last week’s big message was simple: defeat overwhelm by building systems.

If we want freedom, clarity, and peace of mind, we need systems. Why? Because systems keep things moving even when you’re not in the room. They give your team the guidance and confidence they need to do the work you hired them to do. And ultimately, that’s what every leader wants — a team that can fly.

Too often, people are hired for roles and then never given the freedom to actually make an impact. Guardrails matter, especially for new staff, but freedom is what unlocks growth for them and for you.

If you truly want to keep doing their job, that’s fine, just be honest with yourself about it. Step back into the Coordinator or Supervisor role if that’s where you feel most fulfilled. There’s no shame in that. But if you want to lead, then it’s time to delegate, set expectations, and give your team the freedom to do the work you hired them to do.

That means stepping up, delegating, and setting clear expectations. Give due dates. Create check‑in points. Ask questions that help you stay informed and supportive. This isn’t micromanaging — this is leadership.

When we leave ambiguity in our guidance, we can’t be surprised when the results don’t match our expectations. Letting go can be uncomfortable, and I get that. I’ve lived through burnout myself and it wasn’t because I delegated too much.

Change happens slowly and with intention. Start small. Build habits. Give yourself and your team grace as you grow into this new rhythm.

Week by week, we’ll cover the keys to integrated, sustainable leadership. If there’s a topic you want to explore, message me I’m here to help.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is this: when your mission, vision, and values are aligned, designing systems becomes the easy part. It becomes the icing on the cake.

You’re not alone on this journey. If you or your team need support, reach out.
