Value Yourself

Value Yourself

I’m fired up for this post. I’ve been thinking about this topic for the last couple weeks, it’s time to write. Valuing yourself is all about taking a deep internal look at values, motivation, and who you want to be. While on vacation in Kuai I was focused on all the things we enjoy as a family. I watched each of my children make purchases of things they like and us enjoy many types of foods, including tons of shave ice. Then I dove into thought about values, things I struggle with, and things others struggle with.

We live in a society that is dictated by “likes”, “follows”, and acceptance on social media platforms. Posting on social media is fine, I do it all the time however, our emotional state of mind should not be altered based on follows and likes. This is the wrong motivation to fuel you. Think about how often status draws us away from our dreams. Keeping up with the Jones’s jumps to the forefront rather than the slow and steady development of ourselves.

I constantly hear people talking about how they want to be a better employee, parent, coach, get that promotion, or make more money. These same people say they want to invest in themselves and get coaching to meet their goals, yet they do not make the commitment. Instead we continue to be caught in a cycle of buying the latest new thing, pair of shoes, or new shirt and then posting about it. Again, all this is fine however, at some point people must value themselves and work on the development they seek. This journey is going to be hard, anything worth having is. It will take time. You will hit challenges. You will be forced to overcome fears. You will have to bust through the wall. Don’t rest on the shallow joy of someone liking your post about new shoes, instead seek your passion and let your followers like the post of you wearing those new shoes while you pose for the picture at your new job, or in the new suit after the big promotion. Be you, do you, and value you!

If you want to improve, stand out, find the success you seek, now is the time. No more hesitation, there is no special date to wait for. Many people design a new year’s resolution and like magic everything is going to change January 1. I don’t believe in that, it is your job to take control and say, “I want to change now” and set that time for right now. Simply making yourself a timeline and talking with a friend, family member, or co-worker can help you get one step closer to your dreams.
