Thirteen years ago, my wife and I had our first child, yes this is correct, if your doing the math that now means we are the parents of a teenager and all that comes with it. To join our son, we have an eleven-year-old daughter. Our kids share the same birthday, December 17 so this is always a busy time of year. We have worked hard at making their birthday special and not a part of Christmas. It is important to us because it’s important to them. The same is true in the world of coaching, what is important to your co-worker or client is important to you.
While a couple days early, yesterday we hosted a surprise party for the kids. It was an open venue with lots of space, video games, pinball machines, billiards, and many other attractions. We had unlimited play for two hours and what I saw was people of all ages enjoying a great time together and meeting new friends.
As I turn this back to our Journey of Life, I am compelled to say you never know how the people you meet will impact your life someday. You may meet them the first day on your new job, last day at an old job, or at a children’s birthday party. The key to each day is how we show up. If you are tired and cranky, that person may not even want to associate with you. If you are spirited, conversational, and kind that person may turn out to be a new best friend or guide to a brighter future. The world is built on relationships and making a difference in people’s lives. How we show up matters as does how we create an impact.
Throughout life we will have ups and downs that is inevitable, it’s how we respond to the adversity that shows our character in moving forward. Keep in mind we develop more each day if we are intentional with our actions. Be intentional for improvement, making a difference, and gaining a new friend. Skies the limit, enjoy the journey as you never know where it will take you.
