If there is one thing I’ve learned over the last several years while living life is, “Right” is a completely arbitrary word that is all in the eyes of the beholder and doesn’t necessarily translate to others. In that one sentence you are likely already drawing a perception thinking what is he talking about. Right is right and wrong is wrong, or is it? I have worked in several organizations and with many football teams over the years and they all had a different take on what’s right, wrong, and the direction they should go.
If you go to social media right now, you’ll scroll through about 80 post of what people feel is right or the judgement they receive from making a post that differs from another person or organizations point of view. What we are failing to realize as a society is simple, one person doesn’t have to be wrong for another to be right. It’s ok to have differing beliefs or values. It’s also completely acceptable for organizations to vary their beliefs from place to place. This doesn’t mean we can’t partner together to serve a community. It allows me to look and see how our values can mesh together to serve a community from multiple perspectives.
Social media and politics want us to compartmentalize everything into picking a side, cause, or belief system and then being against everything else. Yet the immediate downfall is the lack of us being individuals and making a difference in our own unique way. Additionally, it is possible for people to have a completely different approach to the same item and still unite in a good cause. We can be different, united, and make a difference in serving. It’s possible, I promise!
We need diligent work in not being so judgmental and instead, figuring out the why and making a difference forward. It won’t be easy, society judges, yet the benefits of moving towards a non-judgmental state of being are endless. Dare to be different, don’t judge, learn, grow, and adjust with people instead of against.
