Fast and furious is more than a largely successful series of movies, it accurately describes our lives these days. We’ve been driving towards this as a society for years, not due to COVID – 19 however, this season is certainly magnifying it. Technology constantly at our fingertips, people wanting instant information and answers, while all along we do not exercise any patience.
Think about this, how many of us start work early by checking emails long before the day starts, all in hopes of that miracle of getting a little ahead, which never happens. Multiple this by 5 now that most of us are working from home. There is always an “emergency” for us to handle so the excuse of this week or this month isn’t working right now. At some point, no matter how passionate we are about our job, we run out of gas.
I’m as guilty as anyone, had major plans for Memorial Day weekend to get some down time and relaxation, I failed miserably at this after a couple work emails had me hitting planning phases for work instead of relaxing. This weekend, again same thing, a ton of work mixed with family time and yard work.
The world is not pausing, stopping, or slowing down, rather it’s getting faster despite current chaos. We must figure out how to work together, help one another, cover for each other, and find relaxation. This starts with talking! If we don’t talk we don’t know and can’t help. Leaders, co-workers, everyone, it’s on all of us. We have to help each other find balance. We truly need to help each other find a break away from work to decompress, enjoy life, and reload with a refreshed attitude and spirit. Nobody is alone, we are all in this together, stick together!
