Chasing Your Dreams

This selection may be me self-coaching myself as much as it is a message of hope for everyone else. Chasing your dreams is not easy, though one would think making that decision should be. I recently listened to PJ Fleck, Head Coach for the University of Minnesota football team state “if your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough”. In the one month since then, I’ve heard John Maxwell, Ben Newman, Rachel Hollis, and Jon Gordon all say similar things in podcasts.

So why is it so hard to chase a dream? Relatively speaking, it takes courage. You must attack the process and not be afraid to fail. Most people look at the word fail and get weak by thinking about it. To fail is to learn and grow. Failure is giving up. We can fail at our first attempt and still learn about taking a different approach.

Trust me, I know how difficult it is to give up the lives we currently lead, risk it all to take a venture down a pathway that we have no idea if success is eminent. This not only takes courage, it takes faith. We must have a belief in ourselves and our abilities to overcome and or rebuild if needed. We must also have the desire to work so hard that we will not become failures and will learn in failing. I have heard many people lately say do not give yourself a plan B because that means your already taking your eye off the dream. Hard to live by, yet valid words.

Judgement prevents more people from starting the pathway to a dream then you can even imagine. Think about it, a friend or loved one tells you “no, you would not be good at that” or “oh, why do you want to do that?”. Sometimes we have an idea we share with someone we do not know or worse, we post to social media and it is criticized. Now we feel down on ourselves and question if we were dumb for thinking about doing that. Do not let judgement tear you down, instead allow it to drive you to prove the doubters wrong!

I live with these same self-doubts, we all do. The key is not letting them control us, allow them to inspire us. Think about how we can overcome the doubt, adversity, and obstacles that stand in our way to achieving our dreams. You must also dive into your top 5, these are the top 5 influencers to you. Who are they? Do they impact you in a positive way?  If someone close to you is negatively influential to everything you do, you may need to remove them from your top 5. You must also think about who the people are that emulate what you want to become. Learn from them, study them, in fact, try to meet them and talk. You are unique and amazing, do not change to try and become that role model, you are not them, simply learn from what you admire about them.

Do not let the world control you or your direction. Think about what your dream is and go for it. Let down the walls, become vulnerable, and think about the amazing story you’ll have to tell when you get there. Each day do something to take a step forward towards your dreams. Envision what making it looks like and how you will positively influence others.

Be bold, chase dreams, it’s important, and it is important for you to become the leader and influencer you desire to be. If you seek help in this journey, we are always here. Fill out the information form on the website and we’ll be in touch soon.
